Weight management and negative calorie foods

negative cal
One of the major problems faced by people trying to lose or maintain weight is how not to starve and, at the same time, how not to consume too many calories.

While no food is calorie free, there are a number of foods that are very low in calories and they are called “negative calorie foods.”  In fact their calorie content is so low that, the body has to spend more calories in ingestion, digestion and elimination, the net calorie consumption is negative.

For this reason, much less of these calories can possibly turn into fat in negative calorie foods as fewer calories are actually available to the body, assuming we don’t add calories with dressing, frying oil etc. This gives these foods a tremendous natural fat-burning advantage. We all should incorporate such foods into our diet whether it is for weight loss or weight management purpose.

Most of negative calorie foods are plant based, water vegetables and water fruits, and they commonly contain a lot of water locked in fibrous matrix.

You may be familiar with some healthy negative-calorie foods, such as:
variety of negative calorie foods
• Celery
• Grapefruit
• Kelp noodles
• Lettuce, onions and greens
• Pickles, kimchi and sauerkraut

Jane Fonda, 73, is still selling fitness videos

Jane Fonda fitness dvd
If you need some motivation to keep up with your new year resolution to stay fit, listen to Jane Fonda. Jane Fonda, 73, says that it is never too late and you can start working out in your 70s and 80s.

She recently released two new exercise DVDs for Baby Boomers, seniors and people who are out of shape:

Jane Fonda Prime Time: Fit and Strong
Jane Fonda Prime Time: Walk Out

She is still physically active, but not in the same way she used to be. She doesn't run anymore, but walks instead. She does a lot of walking, brisk but doable. Fonda doesn't lift heavy weights anymore but uses 3- to 5-pound hand weights. To sty on track, she also uses services of a personal trainer.

RevAbs, Beachbody’s 90 days weight loss and fitness challenge

RevAbs from www.beachbody.com
Earlier this month, I came across an Ad in the Craigslist, Los Angeles looking for volunteers who want to get a lean, sexy, six pack Abs in just 90 days.

I responded to the Ad and, surprisingly, got a response three days later. I thought there would be hundreds of people interested and, since I noticed the ad three days later, I would not get any response. Anyway, it turned out the Ad was placed by Santa Monica based fitness products marketing company, BEACHBODY.

They asked me for more personal physical and lifestyle information and then I was invited for a meeting on Monday, December 13, 2010 in a Santa Monica office. There were a number of people but none of them looked extremely overweight or out of shape. Meeting was almost like an audition. It required filling questionnaire on paper followed by seeing three people in a room, in front of a camera. They took a few pictures of me without shirt and asked a few questions about my diet and why I want to participate in the program. The meeting was video taped.

The workout will start on January 10 and the program will last 90 days. Those selected will be notified. I don’t know whether I will be selected because I, although not muscular, am in a descent, active shape already and may not be a good case subject. However, if possible, I will still follow the program and report its outcome in 90 days.

The details of the Ad were as follows:
