Red Bull drink creator is finally dead at 89

Red Bull, in blue-silver cans, is as a popular energy drink and is sold in about 70 countries. Red Bull is supposed to gives wings to people who want to be mentally and physically active and have a zest for life.

Red Bull Energy Drink is claimed to be “for people who want to have a clear and focused mind, perform physically, are dynamic and performance-oriented whilst also balancing this with a fun and active lifestyle.”

The original drink was sold in Asian countries as a "tonic drink" under the name Krating Daeng ("Red Bull"). The drink which kept
people stay awake was popular among laborers, truck drivers and international travelers suffering from jet lag.

The drink was created by Chaleo Yoovidhya of Thailand and his company, TC Pharmaceuticals. This drink came to the attention of an Austrian salesman Dietrich Mateschitz while he was traveling in Asia.

In 1984, Chaleo Yoovidhya and Dietrich Mateschitz founded the company “Red Bull” and started selling the drink internationally. Chaleo and Dietrich each held 49% ownership of the company and 2% was owned by Chaleo’s son, Chalerm.

Red Bull which contains sugar and caffeine has been popular among people who are looking for a jolt of energy to stay awake and active, such as laborers, computer workers and performance athletes. The product is controversial because it can be detrimental in excessive amounts and/or in combination with alcohol and drugs. Red Bull is sold in 70 countries and generates billions of dollars in revenue. The company does not do much advertising through media but rather gets exposure by sponsoring sporting events.

Chaleo Yoovidhya, creator of the drink and co-founder of the company “Red Bull” died on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the age of 89, His 49% ownership in the business was worth $5 billion.
